I'm not going to insult your intelligence by going over how to move, how to fish, etc. I'm assuming that everyone here has a basic level of common sense.
So you've worked your way through the tutorial, you've got a net, some bait, a rod, ice and a boat.
Now what?
We maximise our energy to make the most profit from our fish hunting.
Here are some tips I've worked out which I'd wish I had known from the start.

- Every time you complete a task, you have your energy refilled.
Now this means if you only have to buy some bait, clear weeds, or something that doesn't cost energy, fish until you have zero energy, complete the task, and watch as your energy bar is filled back up to pristine condition.
Because of this refilling quality, working through your tasks and making the most of these refills is the quickest way to progress in the early game (at least).

- From A2 onwards you will occasionally notice small whirlpools these are 'Fish Signs'.
- You will see you lose -1 energy, but there will be no progress bar. You have successfully fished the whirlpool. You seem to get medium priced fish when this happens.
- You will get the Reeling Bar pop up, all you have to do is grab the slider and follow as the green part moves along the bar so as not to slip into the red zone. Once successful you will be rewarded with a high selling fish.
You do have to be fast, with the starting engine if the whirlpool is quite far away it is doubtful you will make it. But a way to help this is when waiting for them to spawn sit with your movement tool enabled so you can quickly get on the go.
A vital method to look for whirlpools is to zoom out. This can be done from the bottom option in the settings menu (under the shop button).

- Every Hour the price of Bait and Fish change (on the hour).
For every fish and bait, there is the option for it to be a good sale (green and thumbs up face), normal (no colour, no emoticon), or a bad sale (blue, thumbs down face).
Its wise to have a small stock pile of bait bought when prices are low in case in the future you're left needing bait, and your only option is to buy it at the higher price.
When you start to rod fish, check that the fish you are aiming to catch is at least normal or green.
If not, look for something else to catch. (and if your very unlucky and there are no available green fish then just carry on catching what is best, you'll still make a profit, and be making use of your energy)
You can, if you have a batch of bad selling fish, ( and its only a few minutes till the change), wait and see if they change for a good price after.

- Fishing in the same place produces more 'no bites'

- What type of fishing to pursue.
If you are actively playing (i.e. sitting using your energy as you get it) then whirlpooling and and rod fishing are your best methods. Netting is a waste of energy if you're playing actively as it costs 4 energy to drop, and 4 energy to pickup your catch. and on average I've been catching 3 fish per net. 8 energy for 3 fish is much less efficient that using a rod. (however it does not require bait)
If you are playing passively (only checking once in a while) drop down some nets, use up your energy with a rod, then leave the game and come back later to collect your catch. Making sure to you have ice topped up for when you're taking in your catch.
Now if you've actually read my little blog and found it useful, please come back soon to see new updates and tips as I get further in the game.
Go out a land a big one guys!
Happy hunting
